SEGA has officially set the global release date for Sonic Rumble, generating excitement among fans worldwide. Read on to discover when the game will launch and what in-game rewards are available through the pre-registration campaign.

Sonic Rumble Coming on May 8, 2025

On April 9, 2025, SEGA took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will launch globally on May 8, 2025. Alongside the reveal of the release date came a brand-new trailer showcasing gameplay footage from the upcoming title.

Sonic Rumble marks the debut of a multiplayer party-style game in the franchise, featuring up to 32 players competing across dynamic levels and varied gameplay modes. As described by SEGA: “Players control a character from the Sonic universe as they enter a toy world created by the villainous Dr. Eggman, navigating treacherous obstacle courses and intense battle arenas!”

As a free-to-play title, concerns about potential pay-to-win mechanics were raised within the community. However, during the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns in an interview with Automaton. He clarified: “We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items.”

Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations

Shortly after the release date announcement, SEGA revealed that Sonic Rumble had surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. Each milestone reached during the campaign unlocks exclusive in-game rewards for all players:

• 200K Pre-Registered – x5000 Rings (in-game currency)
• 400K Pre-Registered – Happy Sticker
• 600K Pre-Registered – Crystal Chao Buddy
• 900K Pre-Registered – Garnet Knuckles Skin
• ??? Pre-Registered – Movie Sonic Skin

The final pre-registration milestone remains undisclosed, but it's speculated that it could be triggered at the 1 million mark or higher, following trends seen in similar campaigns. With several weeks still remaining until launch, there’s plenty of time for the team to reach this target.
