Blizzard Entertainment is reportedly exploring new horizons for its beloved StarCraft franchise, with multiple pitches coming from prominent Korean game developers. According to an article highlighted by the X / Twitter account @KoreaXboxnews, Asia Today revealed that four major Korean studios—NCSoft, Nexon, Netmarble, and Krafton—are vying to secure the rights to develop new StarCraft games. These companies have even journeyed to Blizzard's headquarters in Irvine, California, to present their proposals.

NCSoft, known for the Lineage and Guild Wars series, is said to be pitching a StarCraft RPG, potentially an MMORPG. Nexon, the developer behind The First Descendant, has proposed a "unique" take on the StarCraft IP. Netmarble, with titles like Solo Leveling: Arise and Game of Thrones: Kingsroad under its belt, is aiming to create a StarCraft mobile game. Meanwhile, Krafton, famous for PUBG and inZOI, wants to leverage its development expertise to craft a StarCraft game tailored to its strengths.

While pitches between game companies are commonplace, StarCraft fans are eager to see what Blizzard might do to expand this iconic sci-fi universe, especially given the time that has passed since the last mainline game. When IGN reached out for comment, Activision Blizzard declined to respond.

Adding to the excitement, Blizzard has been making moves on the StarCraft front. In September, it was revealed that Blizzard is attempting a third StarCraft shooter, led by former Far Cry executive producer Dan Hay, who joined Blizzard in 2022. This news was shared by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier during an appearance on IGN’s Podcast Unlocked while discussing his book, "Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment." Schreier noted that while the project was in development as of the book's writing, Blizzard's history with StarCraft shooters has been fraught with challenges.

Blizzard's past efforts include the infamous StarCraft Ghost, a tactical-action console game announced in 2002 and canceled in 2006 after numerous delays. Another attempt, codenamed Ares and described as "like Battlefield in the StarCraft universe," was canceled in 2019 to focus on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. More recently, Blizzard has been hiring for an "upcoming open-world shooter game," with indications pointing toward it being a StarCraft FPS.

Blizzard's commitment to StarCraft is further evidenced by recent actions, such as releasing StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection on Game Pass, and announcing a crossover with the Warcraft card game Hearthstone. As these developments unfold, StarCraft fans have much to look forward to, with Blizzard seemingly determined to bring new life to this cherished franchise.
