Ever since its groundbreaking launch last year, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 modders have delivered outstanding work. Their latest achievement might be the most impressive yet.

Tom, known as Warhammer Workshop and creator of Space Marine 2’s remarkable Astartes Overhaul, announced a 12-player co-op mod this week—and the results look incredible. Footage reveals squads battling a Tyranid Trygon Prime in an epic confrontation reminiscent of MMO raids.

This surpasses expectations, as the base game only supports three-player co-op. With Saber Interactive’s backing, the modding team not only shattered that limit but aims to transform Space Marine 2 into a deeper experience.

"Saber’s support for modders has been incredible," Tom told IGN. "None of us predicted 12-player PvE would be feasible so soon. Their trust made this milestone possible, radically expanding what we can create."

Currently, the mod remains a test—functional but unpolished. Unsurprisingly, adding nine extra players disrupts the balanced PvE encounters designed for smaller squads.

With this foundation, modders are crafting expansions. Tom shared plans for prop hunt modes, PvP operations, enhanced horde modes, and ambitious raid missions featuring high-difficulty bosses requiring coordinated teamwork.

The modding community now thrives, with 20,000 members in its primary Discord server.

"As both creator and fan, it’s thrilling," Tom added. "Saber deserves praise not just for enabling modding but delivering premium content without predatory monetization—rare in today’s gaming landscape."

The game’s future looks bright, with horde mode imminent, a new class underway, and additional Operations content. Patch 8 recently detailed mechanics and maps.

Space Marine 3’s confirmed development follows its predecessor’s success. This mod’s large-scale battles might preview the sequel’s promised "more spectacular" warfare—potentially signaling expanded co-op limits.
