A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk

In a post-Game Awards 2024 interview (December 14, 2024) with Gamertag Radio's Parris, The Witcher 4's director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga shed light on the game's expansion. Ciri's journey will lead players to uncharted territories on The Continent. The village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where unsettling rituals involving young girls are practiced to appease a fearsome deity.

Kalemba revealed this deity to be the Bauk, a monster inspired by Serbian mythology. He described the Bauk as a cunning and terrifying creature, instilling dread in its victims. Beyond the Bauk, players can anticipate encounters with a diverse array of new monsters.

While eager to discuss the new locations and creatures, Kalemba remained tight-lipped, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.

A subsequent interview with Skill UP (December 15, 2024) confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the areas explored by Geralt.

Enhanced NPC Interactions in The Witcher 4

The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC development. Addressing the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba emphasized The Witcher 4's commitment to creating diverse and believable characters, each with their own unique story and interactions. The close-knit nature of a secluded village like Stromford will influence how NPCs interact with Ciri and other characters.

CD Projekt Red is improving NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to enhance immersion. The goal, according to Kalemba, is to create an even more immersive experience than its predecessor.

Although details are still scarce, these revelations promise a richer and more engaging experience with enhanced NPC interactions and a world brimming with new challenges.
