In 2023, The CW abandoned its live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot following numerous production challenges. A newly leaked teaser has emerged online, offering a curious glimpse at what might have been.

The unauthorized footage appeared briefly on the "Lost Media Busters" YouTube channel before Warner Bros. issued a copyright strike. The 3.5-minute trailer introduces the premise: Blossom (Chloe Bennet) struggles with burnout, Bubbles (Dove Cameron) develops drinking habits, and Buttercup (Yana Perrault) rebels against societal expectations.

The trailer follows the disillusioned heroines accidentally killing Mojo Jojo and fleeing Townsville. Years later, they return home to Professor Utonium (Donald Faison), encountering Mojo's vengeful son Jojo - now Townsville's brainwashing mayor. The preview leans heavily into dark humor, including Bubbles referencing juggalos and Buttercup making suggestive remarks about Jojo.

CW verified the footage's authenticity to Variety while clarifying this specific edit was never intended for official release.

Announced in 2020, the project faced multiple hurdles before its 2023 cancellation - including Bennet's departure and an unsatisfactory initial pilot. CW chief Mark Pedowitz admitted at the time: "Sometimes pilots miss their mark. We believed in Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier's writing, Greg Berlanti's production, and our talented cast. But tonally, it skewed too campy without enough grounding in reality."

The network ultimately concluded fresh creative direction was needed, though no reboot attempt materialized.
