MultiVersus Adds Two New Fighters!
MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale for the gaming industry, a case study in development challenges akin to the infamous Concord debacle. Despite its impending closure, the game's final chapter unfolds with the addition of two highly anticipated characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement, however, hasn't been met entirely with celebration. Significant fan frustration, some bordering on threats against the development team, has emerged. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh responded with a heartfelt message, pleading with players to refrain from issuing threats and expressing his understanding of their disappointment.
Huynh offered an apology to fans whose desired characters didn't make it into the game, expressing hope that they'll still find enjoyment in the final Season 5 content. He also explained the complex factors influencing character selection, emphasizing his limited control over the process, contrary to some players' perceptions.
The shutdown announcement further fueled the fire, with players expressing anger over their inability to spend in-game tokens on the newly released characters – a promised benefit for purchasers of the premium $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise likely contributed to the escalation of negative reactions and threats.
