Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake has achieved phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold. This milestone builds upon the game's already impressive sales trajectory, having reached 8 million units sold just a short time ago. The surge in sales is likely attributed to the February 2023 release of the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition and a subsequent iOS port late in 2023.

The remake, launched in March 2023, reimagines the 2005 classic, following Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a dangerous cult. A significant departure from its survival horror roots, the remake shifted the gameplay towards a more action-oriented experience.

Capcom's official Twitter account, CapcomDev1, celebrated the achievement with celebratory artwork featuring beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, and Saddler. A recent update further boosted the game's appeal, particularly for PS5 Pro users.

A Record-Breaking Success

According to Alex Aniel, author of the fan book Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4 holds the title of the fastest-selling entry in the franchise. This is particularly noteworthy when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 sales by its eighth quarter.

Anticipation for Future Remakes

The overwhelming success of Resident Evil 4 has ignited anticipation for future Capcom projects. Many fans are eagerly awaiting a potential Resident Evil 5 remake, a prospect made more plausible by the less-than-a-year gap between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both crucial to the series' overarching narrative, are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, the announcement of a Resident Evil 9 would also be met with considerable excitement.
