inZOI’s Karma System Can Turn Cities into Literal Ghost Towns

Cities in inZOI can become ghost towns if too many Zois die with poor karma, fundamentally changing the state of urban life within the game. The title introduces a unique karma system that directly influences population dynamics and city development.

New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts

When too many Zois pass away with low karma scores, they transform into ghosts rather than reincarnating as new citizens. According to inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim, “Each time a Zoi performs an action, karma points are accumulated.” Upon death, these points determine whether the soul transitions peacefully or remains trapped as a ghost.

Kim further explained, "If too many ghosts appear in the city, new Zois cannot be born, nor can families be created." This mechanic places responsibility on players to actively manage the moral behavior of their Zois to prevent urban decline. However, the system isn't designed to enforce only good actions. As Kim stated, “Life cannot be divided simply into good and bad; every life has its own meaning and value.”

Players must engage deeply with the karma system to maintain balance, allowing them to create diverse narratives while exploring deeper themes about morality and existence.

inZOI Director Respects The Sims’ Legacy

Despite being compared to The Sims, inZOI is not intended as a direct competitor but rather as a fresh alternative in the life simulation genre. Director Kim expressed deep respect for The Sims, noting, “We have great respect for the legacy The Sims has built over the years. Reaching that depth in such a short period of time is no easy task.”

He added, “This is due to the nature of life sim games which cover the vast and complex concept of 'life,' making it difficult to capture every aspect.” The inZOI team focuses on offering a distinct experience through advanced tools and immersive gameplay.

Kim emphasized, “Inzoi is designed to allow players to freely shape the life they desire using various creative tools.” Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game features realistic visuals, detailed customization, and AI-driven systems that enable players to craft personalized worlds and stories.

inZOI Early Access Release Date and Online Showcase

Mark your calendars—inZOI will launch its early access version on Steam on March 28, 2025, at 00:00 UTC. Regional release times are also available via the official worldwide map published by the developers.

Before launch, players can tune into an exclusive live showcase scheduled for March 19, 2025, at 01:00 UTC. The event will stream live on inZOI’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. During the broadcast, developers will reveal early access pricing, DLC plans, and the game's developmental roadmap. They’ll also answer popular community questions and debut a new early access teaser video.

inZOI will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at early access launch. A full release date has yet to be announced.
