这则消息来自彭博社记者 Jason Schreier 的新书《Play Nice: The Rise and Fall of Blizzard Entertainment》节选内容，近期发表于 WIRED 网站。Diablo 团队的核心成员回顾了从 Diablo 3 到 Diablo 4 的发展历程。由于 Diablo 3 被视为暴雪的失败之作，Mosqueira 表示他希望在 Diablo 系列中创造一些全新的东西。
当时，该项目代号为“Hades”，由少数艺术家和设计师与 Mosqueira 共同构思了 Diablo 4 的早期版本。这个版本的 Diablo 4 将采用肩视角，而非俯视角。此外，类似于《蝙蝠侠：阿卡姆》系列，战斗将更加动作化，更具“冲击力”。更有趣的是，如果玩家角色死亡，将面临永久死亡，角色彻底消失。
